The Band of Brothers discussed confessing to one another tonight in Bible study and what follows is a list (in no particular order) of what genuine confession looks like from that discussion:
- genuine humility
- don't qualify/take ownership
- name the specific sin
- it must be important to you - desperation
- proper motives before God
- proper motives before the other person
- ask for forgiveness
- reconciliation
- complete confession
- accept consequences
- ask how it affected the other
- {/bible}1 Cor 13{bible 47} Love
- no fishing for reciprocal confession
- no fishing for sympathy
- you initiate
- avoid the blame ratio (own your own part 100%)
- avoid starting with the word "you"
- be prepared to listen
- prepare with God before confessing to others
- keep short accounts ({bible 47}Eph 4:26{/bible})
- seek God's face for wisdom
