I am thoroughly enjoying “Lord, Teach Me To Pray” and especially liked reading the 3rd chapter this week. The whole concept of praying continually is something that I find so difficult to do in my own life yet I know how foundational it is for my maturity as a follower of Christ.
MacArthur explains that when Paul commands to “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thes 5:17) or “Pray at all times...” (Eph 6:18) that he is not suggesting that we abandon everything else in life and spend all of our days on our knees in meditative prayer. Rather, he is inspiring us to remain in constant communication with God.
Prayer is a way of life for true believers.
I want to have open, such frequently used lines of communication with God that my “knee-jerk” reaction in any situation is to talk to Him about it. When tragedy strikes, what will my first instinct be? When I have a victory, who will I tell first? When I am faced with a difficult decision, where am I going to turn before any place else? The answers to this question is a good test, I think, as to how am doing over all in my walk with Christ.
I have so very far to go I am afraid.
